In 2008, Blanchett starred alongside Brad Pitt in the acclaimed film Curious Case of Benjamin Button. She also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, as the villainous KGB agent Col. Dr. Irina Spalko. On 5 December 2008, Blanchett was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre.

A pregnant Blanchett walks the red carpet of the Academy Awards, with two Oscar nods: one for Best Actress as Queen Elizabeth I and another for Best Supporting Actress as Bob Dylan. Although she doesn’t take a statue home, she does welcome her third son, Ignatius Martin, in April.

Over 2000 HQ photos of Cate from 2008 have been added to the gallery so, you can go there to take a look back to the past. I am working to add photoshoots and scans in a few hours. Enjoy!

Screen Australia says actor will direct television series based on the story of a German-Australian woman who was wrongly detained as an illegal immigrant

Cate Blanchett is to make her first foray behind the camera, developing and directing a new television series, Stateless, based on the life of Cornelia Rau.

Rau, a German-Australian woman and former Qantas air hostess, attracted attention in 2005 after she escaped the controversial Sydney sect known as Kenja only to be held at the Baxter detention centre in South Australia as a suspected illegal immigrant.

As the national debate around immigration and detention continues to swirl in Australia, Blanchett could not have chosen a more topical subject for her debut.

“Stateless will be Cate Blanchett’s first venture into high-end TV,” said Screen Australia who is funding the script’s development by writer Elise McCredie.

“Inspired by the incredible true story of Cornelia Rau, Stateless is a powerful and timely series about identity, belonging and the extraordinary lengths people will go to find their place in the world,” the funding body said.

CATE Blanchett makes no bones about it. Returning to a theatre rehearsal room when you have a young baby is hard.

She and husband Andrew Upton adopted baby Edith from the US earlier this year and have said that they and their three sons are “besotted”.

But as everyone knows, caring for a baby is tiring.

“I feel a bit sleep-deprived,” admits Blanchett.

“But you have to work with whatever state you’re in and turn it in to a positive. Sometimes, it can be good to be a bit tired in a rehearsal room because your defences are down, your guard is down.”

Blanchett is about to co-star with Richard Roxburgh in The Present, adapted by Upton from Anton Chekhov’s sprawling first play Platonov, and playing at the Roslyn Packer Theatre from August 4.

Blanchett and Roxburgh also performed together in Upton’s 2010 adaptation of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, wowing audiences and critics alike in Sydney, Washington and New York.

As you’d expect, their reunion has made The Present one of the hottest tickets in the Sydney Theatre Company’s 2015 season.

The location for this interview is more than appropriate – the rooftop terrace of the Cannes Festival Palais, which Cate Blanchett has already ruled over with her enthusiastically received love drama Carol. At this point she does not know yet that the jury will ultimately overlook her performance as a New York socialite falling in love with an ambitious shop girl. But the broader verdict seems likely to go in her favor; the Australian actor is bound to dominate the next award season.

It will be an elegant dominance, if her demeanor in this interview — punctuated only by the occasional swear word and accented by open discussion of her sexual orientation and the involvement of her husband and children in her career — is anything to go by.

In what ways is this movie about gay characters relevant to our period of time?

There are many countries around the world where homosexuality is still illegal. What makes the film so special is that Todd (Haynes) thinks like an outsider, which what makes his relationships and his perspective on the world as a filmmaker so surprising and arresting. He’s described it as Romeo and Juliet, or rather Juliet and Juliet. These characters are falling love for the first time. Yes, it’s important it’s two women falling in love but it also describes the experience when you are connecting with someone deeply. The characters find that dangerous, not only because the love that they feel is illegal, but because it’s so alarming for them.

Everyone is in awe of your performance in this film…

Are they?

How do you prevent this from getting to your head? Doesn’t it drive you crazy when everybody is singing your praises?

That’s what they say to my face. I don’t know what they are saying behind my back. But it is really lovely that people are receiving it warmly. It has been a long labor of love for Phyllis Nagy, the writer, in particular. I have also been attached to the project a long time. And also working like someone with Todd, it really became a film when he came on board. It’s a collaborative process. But if you believe the good, you also have to believe the bad.

Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett will appear as the star attraction at a major fundraising event for the opposition’s most senior woman in Federal Parliament – Tanya Plibersek.

Blanchett is billed to appear at the Margaret Whitlam dinner in Sydney next week (June 19th, 2015). The online promotional material for the fundraiser highlights Blanchett’s climate change activism.

“As an actor, story teller, climate change activist and leading voice for women in public life, Cate Blanchett brings a unique and interesting experience to our event,” the website says.

“As co-artistic director of Sydney Theatre Company, Cate not only helped shape the artistic vision of the company but took on a responsibility for the company to address their impact on the climate.”

Conservatives, including Federal Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce, singled out Blanchett for criticism when she and other prominent Australians urged ordinary voters to support a price on carbon in a national advertising campaign in 2011.

The Coalition argued a price on carbon would push up the cost of living for poorer Australians. Labor said the compensation built into the scheme would more than recompense those on the lowest incomes.

Blanchett also spoke at the state funeral for former prime minister Gough Whitlam last year and said she owed her tertiary education to his policies. The speech is said to have angered former Liberal prime minister John Howard who says access to free university studies occurred before Whitlam came to power and is under-recognised.

Cate Blanchett completed a trip to Lebanon with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to visit Syrian refugee camps in the country, Blanchett’s official website said.

The award-winning actress’  trip comes ahead of World Refugee Day on 20 June.

Blanchett visited the Mazboud Community Centre where she met fourteen-year-old Syrian refugee Ahmed.

Ahmad, who left Syria as a younger schoolboy, came to Lebanon to work in multiple jobs before joining his uncle at his bakery shop, making and selling pastries.

During her stay, Blanchett attended a theatre performance put together by Ahmad and other young Syrian refugees.

The performance tackled the issue of early marriage in the Syrian refugee community.

Blanchett’s website features a short video that documents the actress’ trip. The video includes scenes of Ahmad telling his story, snippets of the theatre performance, and Blanchett addressing the plight of Syrian refugees. [Source]

SK-II invited Global Ambassador Cate Blanchett to Singapore to celebrate the launch of two new products – the Mid-Day and Mid-Night Miracle Essences.

Making her first ever appearance in Singapore, multiple Academy Award-winning actress/SK-II Global Ambassador Cate Blanchett candidly shared her beauty secrets with the media. Before making her appearance at the media session, Cate made a virtual one on the SK-II #changedestiny Google+ Hangout, where she hung out with her fans from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Los Angeles, USA. Hosted by celebrity personality Utt, Cate shared her thoughts on pushing boundaries in life, going beyond one’s limitations, and even beauty tips from her grandmother!

As a 46-year old, here are some inspiring quotes made by Cate during her Google+ Hangout session:

On being limited by the skin you are born with:

“I don’t like the word limited, I think you’ve got to work with what you got. And I think trying to look like someone else or trying to be like someone else, or trying to have someone else’s career is not a good philosophy for any part of your life. But if you work with what you have got, and consistently stay with a range of products that work, which for me is SK-II, then I think you can totally change the results.”

On advice for women venturing into new challenges and breaking stereotypes:

“Well, there’s no formula, really. Especially when you’re in the creative field, I think there’s a lot of parental pressure. My mum did (get worried) as well. But I think that, you’ve got to desperately want to do it. If you’re not gripped by a passion to do it, particularly for the creative field then you’ve got to ask yourself some hard questions. And I always think about it in 5-year blocks so for me, that helped me not get bogged down by what would seem like an immediate failure or an immediate roadblock.”
