The actress will receive Australia’s highest screen award.
Cate Blanchett will be awarded the ACCTA Longford Lyell Award, Australia’s highest screen award, on Wednesday evening in Sydney. The award has been presented since 1968, honouring an individual who has made a “truly outstanding contribution to the enrichment of Australia’s screen environment and culture.” As one of Australia’s most successful film exports, it’s hard to deny the two-time Oscar-winner fits the bill.
“When I look at the outstanding men and women who have received this prestigious award before me, I am truly honoured to be considered among venerable practitioners and performers; creative spirits who have had a strong and lasting influence, not only on my work, but on what I thought creatively possible in this country,” Blanchett said of the honour via press release.
Currently, Blanchett stars on the December 2015 issue of Vogue Australia, which celebrates the end of her and husband Andrew Upton’s tenure at the Sydney Theatre Company in anticipation of their permanent move overseas. [Source]
