Cate Blanchett has said she would love to appear in a forthcoming Star Wars movie.

The Oscar winning actress, who has appeared in Blue Jasmine and Carol, said one of the main reasons why she would like to appear in the sci-fi franchise would be so she could get close to the remote Irish island of Skellig Michael. It was used as the backdrop for the pivotal final scene of J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens, where the whereabouts of missing Jedi Luke Skywalker were revealed.

Star Wars I suspect, is probably a lot of fun,” she told the Irish edition of The Sun. “JJ Abrams is a gifted creator, I’d certainly be game. But it would have to be on Skellig Michael. I suspect that may be the only time a crew is allowed to be there.”

The tiny island, which was home to a monastery from the 8th to the 12th century, was designated a World Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1996.

Meanwhile, Alden Ehrenreich, who starred alongside Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, was reportedly recently cast as the young Han Solo in Disney’s forthcoming Star Wars spin-off film.

Ehrenreich will take the lead role in the eagerly anticipated film about the early life of the character originally made famous by Harrison Ford. The as-yet-untitled film will tell the origin story of the character and will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (Lego Movie).

The 26-year-old, who appeared in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, was apparently cast ahead of fellow actors Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor. [Source]
