The awards-season push is in full swing now at the Weinstein Company, which this morning launched a new trailer for Carol, its Cannes competition pic that landed co-star Rooney Mara a best actress prize there. It has been working its way through the fest circuit since May, landing a gala screening at the London Film Festival and then its U.S. premiere over the weekend at Telluride.

The 1950s-set love story, based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Price Of Salt, stars Mara as Therese Belivet, a clerk in a Manhattan department store who falls for Cate Blanchett’s eponymous character, an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. Todd Haynes directed Phyllis Nagy’s adaptation. After a teaser that dropped last month that mostly was footage over music, today’s look for the first time reveals the depth of the love — and the height of the obstacles — that the pair face.

The Weinsteins originally slotted the pic for the pre-Christmas December 18 frame, but calculated a move to a November 20 domestic release — that puts the movie into a similar slot as prior TWC successes The Imitation Game and The King’s Speech. That would set up well for Mara, Blanchett and Haynes who most certainly will be in the awards mix. [Source]
