Back in December, it was reported that Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett was in talks with Marvel Studios to star in the upcoming action-fantasy movie “Thor: Ragnarok,” playing one of the lead female roles.
Now, director Taika Waititi has finally confirmed that Cate is indeed joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent interview with Wired, Waititi has confirmed that Cate will star in the next Thor movie, although he did not discuss details about what role the actress will be playing.
“Yeah, the rumor … Here’s the thing. I can’t say anything. I’ve probably said way too much,” Waititi said about Cate playing villain Hela, reported Fashion N Style.
The director assured fans that whatever role Cate Blanchett will be playing in the movie “Thor: Ragnarok,” it’s surely going to be great.
“Yes. Look, it’s so early I’m not sure exactly what the extent of it is, but it’s looking good, which would make me very happy,” he said. “At the moment, everyone’s trying to figure it out, like ‘What’s he going to do?'” Waititi said, talking about the return of fan favorite character Loki in the film. “Everyone loves that character.”
Even Mark Ruffalo, who will play Hulk in the movie, had earlier hinted Cate Blanchett’s involvement in “Thor: Ragnarok.”
“I’m so thrilled,” Ruffalo told Entertainment Weekly after they asked about Blanchett’s involvement in the Thor movie. “I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.”
“Thor: Ragnarok” is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017. [Source]
